Our commitment to waste reduction

Most of Technogym’s waste comprises paper, cardboard, glass and organic waste. Although the company's activities do not produce significant amounts of hazardous waste, several initiatives are in place to reduce the amount.Specifically, for the Slovak plant, production waste and hazardous waste mainly involve sanding and abrasive materials, packaging, and sludge. Constant monitoring and continuous improvement for waste reduction is a particular focus for the Group.Technogym S.p.A. was awarded the Ecol Design Award 2021 for adopting highly eco-efficient processes. The award was given by Recycla S.p.A., in recognition of the effectiveness of Technogym’s environmental management system that recovers 69% of the waste the company generates.

Water consumption

Technogym’s business activity does not require a significant use of water. In Italy, the most impactful water usage is the irrigation of the 100,000sqm Technogym Village grounds. Until August 2022, water for this was taken from the Emiliano-Romagnolo Canal. To reduce the environmental impact and allow irrigation of the surrounding farmland to be prioritised instead, Technogym now takes its water supply from the Cesena purifier nearby.

In Slovakia, there is a limited consumption related to the coating system and tests all the water flowing in and out of the site. To minimise water waste, Technogym monitors leaks and service inefficiencies daily and runs remote checks of sanitary and irrigation facilities using the Honeywell Building Management System.

In Slovakia, Technogym installed a heat pump in 2017, which reuses hot water and has cut the consumption of groundwater extracted by almost half. In addition, as a result of discontinuing the use of water during certain processes, the Slovakian plant has been more efficient in managing its withdrawal of groundwater. Since 2022, a programme to replace the taps in sanitary facilities at the Slovakian plant has also helped reduce water consumption.

The "I am green" initiative

Technogym’s “I am Green” initiative aims to reduce reliance on single-use plastic and foster a stronger awareness among staff about recycling and reducing food waste. From the second half of 2019, water dispensers have been installed in cafés in the Technogym Village so staff can use refillable water bottles. Plastic bottles have been replaced with aluminium, and plastic cups and stirrers for hot drinks have been replaced with biodegradable ones. Unused food from the   T– Restaurant is donated to local associations.
